Peter Aviss studied conducting with George Hurst and Colin Metters at Canford Summer School and later with Norman Del Mar at the Sevenoaks International Conducting Summer School.
He has been musical director and conductor for Quaker Festival Orchestra and Chorus, Quaker Chamber Orchestra, Maidstone Operatic Society, Cranbrook Philharmonic Orchestra, South Kent Youth Orchestra and currently deputy conductor for Folkestone Symphony Orchestra, along with many string coaching engagements.
He is founder conductor and musical director of the award winning Oare string Orchestra.
OSO has won 6 PRS awards for innovative programming. During OSO’s 42 years of giving concerts, in Faversham and the SE, Holland and France, Peter has worked with many internationally acclaimed soloists, such as Sioned Williams, Lucy Wakeford, The Endellion Quartet, Martin Outram, James Bowman and many others. Under Peter’s baton, the orchestra has also given a large number of first performances, European and UK 1st performances.
